Matthew O. Jackson is currently "William D. Eberle Professor of Economics" at Stanford University, an external member of the Santa Fe Institute, and a senior fellow of CIFAR. He has taught at Northwestern University and Caltech, among others, after a doctorate at Stanford (1988). His research interests focus on game theory, theoretical microeconomics and economic and social networks. On these subjects, he has published numerous academic articles in a very diverse set of journals, including Nature, Science, PNAS, Review of Economic Studies, Journal of Political Economy, Journal of Economic Literature, American Economic Review, the Quarterly Journal of Economics and Econometrica. He has written two books: “The human Network” for a general audience, and "Social and Economic Networks" for researchers.

He also gives online courses on networks and game theory.

He has served on the editorial boards of Econometrica, Games and Economic Behavior, PNAS and the Review of Economic Design.

Noticeable distinctions: he is a Member of the National Academy of Sciences, a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a Fellow of the Econometric Society, a Game Theory Society Fellow, and an Economic Theory Fellow, and his other honors include a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Social Choice and Welfare Prize, the von Neumann Award from Rajk Laszlo College, an honorary doctorate from Aix-Marseille University, the B.E.Press Arrow Prize for Senior Economists, and teaching awards.
